Tasmania is a cool temperate climate, with four distinct seasons. The warmest months are December, January, February and March. Autumn has still, sunny days. Winter runs from May through August. However, the climate can vary greatly – on any given day.

The tour starts with pick-up from your accomodation in Hobart. The specialist nature guide will transport you to the beautiful Tasman Peninsula. On the way south through great raptor country, we will stop a lovely wetland area on the East coast to see a selection of shore birds and salt-water marsh birds like Hooded Plover and White-fronted Chat. We will then continue south, pausing at many excellent birding locations within the National Parks and simultaneously experiencing a range of incredible geological formations such as The Blowhole at Eaglehawk Neck, the stunning Tasman Arch and the Devils Kitchen viewpoint where you may see beautiful birds such as Flame Robin, Striated Pardalote and Golden Whistler. We will also have a chance to see the fascinating Tessellated Pavements and the Dog Line historic site that stretches across the Neck.
The afternoon will include visiting the Remarkable Cave with stunning views out to Cape Raoul and the Salt River Coal Mine, where the convicts established Tasmania's first operational mine. This is now a historic site where many of the walls of the buildings and cells still stand. Both sites are home to a lovely selection of birds, with endemic birds such as Green Rosella, Yellow-throated Honeyeater and Yellow Wattlebird likely in some of the forested sites.
In the late afternoon we will return north to Hobart.
