Inala Nature: About Us

Inala Nature Tours

For over 30 years, Inala Nature Tours has designed and led small group birding and wildlife adventures. What began on our 1,500 acre private conservation reserve on Bruny Island, Tasmania, has expanded into worldwide expeditions. In Australia, our tours span from Queensland’s lush rainforests to the rugged landscapes of the Kimberley. Internationally, we explore destinations ranging from Kenya’s vast plains to Nepal’s snowy Himalayan foothills.

Dr. Tonia Cochran and her expert team carefully craft and guide each tour, ensuring an unforgettable experience. With a deep commitment to conservation and immersive nature travel, we create journeys that connect people with the world’s most incredible wildlife and landscapes.

Inala on Bruny Island

Experience where our journey began by visiting Inala on Bruny Island. Stay in one of our cosy cottages, nestled within the 1,500-acre Inala Conservation Reserve —home to all twelve of Tasmania’s endemic bird species. Guests gain exclusive access to the reserve through accommodation bookings or guided Bruny Island tours.

Designed for birders, the reserve features multiple bird hides and viewing platforms, including our world-class Raptor Photography Hide , a must-visit for bird photographers. Casual visitors to Bruny Island can also explore the Jurassic Garden  and the Nature Museum at Inala, offering fascinating insights into the region’s natural history.

Our Mission.

At Inala, we create exceptional, immersive nature experiences that foster a deep connection with wildlife and landscapes. We actively contribute to conservation by restoring habitats, protecting endangered flora and fauna, promoting sustainable practices, supporting research, and advancing education. Through these efforts, we ensure that future generations can continue to explore and learn from the wonders of nature.

Our passionate team designs personalised birding and wildlife tours, led by expert guides, to inspire a love for nature and a commitment to conservation. With every journey, we aim to deepen your appreciation for the natural world while creating unforgettable experiences.

Our dedication shines through in every step of your adventure with us. Whether it’s through meaningful conversations, shared discoveries, or breathtaking encounters with wildlife, we are fully engaged in making your experience exceptional. At Inala, we don’t just introduce you to incredible habitats—we also take action to protect them. Every team member shares a deep passion for nature, conservation, and people. Together, we are Inala Nature.
