Meet the Inala Team

Tracey-Ann

T-A (Tracey-Ann) hails from the wild west coast of Tasmania and, although she left at an early age, she never lost her love for Tassie’s beguiling mountains, unique fauna, deep green temperate rainforests and even the howling icy gales! She trained as a biologist in London, fled the urban jungle to study threatened parrots in the Andean cloud forest, discovered that conservation biology, birding and environmental education work well together, and eventually ended up in a museum. Thankfully this was in a professional capacity, and she enjoyed a 12-year stint curating natural sciences exhibitions and coordinating biodiversity fieldwork programs for Museums Victoria. Along the way, she also got hooked on seabirds and shorebirds, spending as much time as possible at sea or on islands around the world contributing to long-term population studies.

Now based back home in Tasmania, T-A spends part of each year working as an ornithologist/guide on expedition ships in Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic. She loves that Tasmania and Antarctica are so interconnected through Gondwanan origins and Southern Ocean ecosystems. She joined the Inala team in 2024 and is over the moon to be guiding for a Tasmanian organisation with conservation at both its head and its heart, and with a genuine commitment to ethical birding.

As a guide, T-A aims to help people find those precious moments of awe and connectedness in nature. She approaches birding – and other wildlife watching – with patience, curiosity and a big sense of joy, and makes time to explore the ecology, behaviour and conservation of each species. She can’t wait to share some of her favourite birding spots with you.

When she’s not working, T-A can be found up a mountain in the snow, on a Tall Ship out to sea, or cooking up a storm for a kitchenful of friends.
