On this Pelagic Tour, departing from Eaglehawk Neck, we will make our way into the vastness of the Southern Ocean in our quest for pelagic birds. High species diversity and the nearness of the continental shelf have earned Tasmania an international reputation as an excellent place to see pelagic species. Not long after we depart Pirate’s Bay, we will hopefully encounter Short-tailed Shearwater in considerable number. This is one of the finest places on the planet to see a diversity of albatross, with Antipodean & New Zealand Wandering, Northern & Southern Royal, Shy, Campbell, Black-browed, and Indian Yellow-nosed Albatross all possible. With land still in sight we will reach the continental shelf and begin to lay a berley trail from the back of the boat. Possible petrels include White-chinned, Great-winged, Grey-faced, the striking White-headed, Gould’s, Cook’s and Mottled. Shearwater diversity is also good with Hutton’s, Fluttering, Sooty and Short-tailed Shearwater all possible. Wilson’s, Grey-backed and White-faced Storm Petrels and Fairy Prion are also regularly seen. Mammals we may encounter include Australian Fur-seals, Hump-backed Whale, Common and Bottlenose Dolphin.
On the Day
Departure Time: Please be at the Blow hole / Pirates Bay Jetty carpark ( end of Blowhole Road, just after you cross Eaglehawk Neck) by 6.45am for a 7:00am sharp departure.
Return Time: Returning to the jetty at about 3pm (Hobart by 5pm)

Tour Cost = $360 per person. We ask you to agree to pay an additional $100 (14 days out of tour) if we do not reach 10-11pax. All efforts will be made to fill the tour to reach maximum guest numbers.
Pre-tour procedure: Your pelagic guide will be speaking to the boat skipper on the evening before to ensure that it has not been weather-affected.
During the booking process, please provide us with your best contact number so we can let you know if there is a last-minute change of plan. If you do not hear from us, the trip will go ahead as planned.
In the event that the trip is cancelled, which will only be for reasons of weather or mechanical issue, full refunds will be given.
Parking: There is limited parking down near the jetty and further, all-day parking back up the hill. Please do not park in a boat or trailer spot.
Recommended Equipment: The following items are recommended for the trip:
On board facilities: There is a basic toilet on board and the skipper will supply some tea and coffee, conditions permitting. On boarding the vessel, please stow all luggage in the cabin so there is room for passengers to sit on the deck. Life jackets are stowed under the seat cushions in the cabin. You will receive a briefing before boarding from your guide.
Taking care of yourself: You are on the water for 8 hours and being onboard a boat can sometimes exacerbate existing back or knee problems. Please prepare carefully and take care of yourself on board.
Tasmania is a cool temperate climate, with four distinct seasons. The warmest months are December, January, February and March. Autumn has still, sunny days. Winter runs from May through August. However, the climate can vary greatly – on any given day.
