Day-by-Day Itinerary

One Day - Bruny Tour Package

EXAMPLE DAY TOUR:
We begin at the Inala Conservation Reserve where we will walk around the private reserve, home to a variety of threatened species and all 12 Tasmanian endemic birds. We will have the opportunity to observe the endangered Tasmanian endemic Forty-spotted Pardalote within one of its largest known colonies, from our purpose-built canopy platform. We may also have the chance to view raptors such as the Tasmanian subspecies of the Wedge-tailed Eagle and the white morph of the Grey Goshawk from the raptor viewing hide.

We will then then continue the tour, exploring your choice of many wonderful Bruny Island locations. As these tours may cater to individual interests, locations may depend on which birds, wildlife, history and landscape are of most interest. These include Cloudy Bay, Cape Bruny Lighthouse, Adventure Bay, Mount Mangana, Mavista Rainforest, The Neck, Cape Queen Elizabeth and many other unique and beautiful sites. The Inala guide can illuminate and interpret the rich and varied habitats you pass through, and inform you about all the wonderful nature that you see.

Enjoy morning tea and a picnic lunch in the field.

EXAMPLE NIGHT TOUR:

After having dinner with your guide at a Bruny restaurant, you will continue directly out on the night tour with your guide.  You can choose to visit a Short-tailed Shearwater (Muttonbird) colony to view these birds returning to their burrows from the ocean after dusk. (The Shearwater are present for their breeding season between September - April.) In addition to visiting ‘The Neck’ colony, you can also visit other areas of the Island with your guide in search of some of Bruny Island's other nocturnal wildlife such as endemic Tasmanian Pademelons and endangered Eastern Quolls for whom Bruny is a critical habitat, as well as Bennett’s Wallabies and Brush-tailed Possums.
Long-nosed Potoroo, Tawny Frogmouth and Tasmanian Boobook are also possibilities, with an outside chance of seeing an endangered Masked Owl. It is also possible to see the Southern sky in all its brilliance on a clear night, including the Southern Cross, Milky Way and maybe even the Aurora Australis during more active solar periods.

  • Bruny now has a very small number of Little Penguins; it is increasingly uncommon for them to be seen.
  • In mid-summer it is not dark until between 8-9pm to start the night tour
  • We use red lights to spotlight at night and do not use flash photography with any nocturnal wildlife. Images and videos can still be taken under red light conditions.
