Harriet grew up in the Tasmanian bush, and has always found great joy in sharing the natural beauty of her home state with visitors. After completing degrees in Science and Indonesian language in Hobart, she moved to Tasmania’s wild West Coast where she worked for several years as a nature guide on the Gordon River. Her spare time was spent exploring many of Tasmania’s less-visited gems - kayaking up rivers accompanied by platypus and Azure Kingfishers, walking remote sections of Tasmania’s magnificent South-West Coast, and spending many hours in the coastal heath watching Ground Parrots and Southern Emu Wrens.
Having spent most of her life in Tasmania, actively learning and engaging with local research, history, politics and community, Harriet is well positioned to provide a broad context for your experience visiting Tasmania.
Since her time on the West Coast, Harriet’s love and knowledge of birds has continued to expand, resulting in a “big year” birding the length of Australia’s East Coast in 2025. Now based back home in Tasmania, she works part time caring for injured raptors and is thrilled to be combining her passions for bird watching and nature guiding working for Inala.
